Google Cloud and Solana Foundation Launch Agentic-Commerce Hackathon in Korea
Google Cloud and the Solana Foundation are running a hackathon on agentic commerce: AI agents that pay on Solana themselves. Partners include Korean payment firms like Shinhan Card; demo day is August 21.
What happened
Google Cloud and the Solana Foundation are co-hosting a hackathon — the “Google Cloud × Solana AI Agentic Hackathon,” under the banner “Build the Future of Agentic Commerce.” Registration has been open since July 17, the online kickoff and tech session is set for July 21, and the in-person demo day for August 21 at the Google Startup Campus in Seoul. Superteam Korea and the university group Ewha Chain act as operators.
The institutional angle
The partner list stands out: Shinhan Card, KG Inicis, KG Financial, and KSNET — established Korean payment and finance companies — are on board, plus DOZN. Add a research partner (Four Pillars) and roughly a dozen Korean university blockchain clubs, including from KAIST, Seoul National University, and Yonsei. That lifts the event above a pure student hackathon.
What it is about
There is exactly one track: agentic commerce on Solana. The goal is AI agents that execute payments themselves — without per-step approval, but within set limits — with Google Cloud AI as the “brain” and Solana as the fast, cheap payment layer. Suggested directions range from agent-initiated commerce to autonomous on-chain settlement, agent-to-agent negotiation (A2A/A2B), and verifiable payouts at scale.
The technical stack
Judging requires real on-chain execution — in the demo, an agent must trigger an actual transaction (devnet/testnet). On the Solana side, the organizers name USDC, Solana Pay, pay.sh and x402; on the Google side, Vertex AI, Cloud Run, and the Agent Development Kit. The hackathon thus builds directly on the agent-to-API payment infrastructure that the Solana Foundation and Google Cloud launched in May with Pay.sh — and on the open x402 standard, which just moved under the Linux Foundation.
Prizes and format
The prize pool totals $5,000 (1st place $3,000, 2nd $1,500, 3rd $500), paid via the Solana Foundation’s grants program; half is tied to participating in the global Solana hackathon. Participants also receive Google Cloud credits. From roughly ten finalists (announced August 7), the demo day picks the winners.
