From 19 October 2026, customers of the first Sparkassen can buy and sell crypto in the Sparkasse app. The German Savings Banks Association (DSGV) told the news agency dpa. Solana is one of five assets in DekaBank’s offer, “Krypto – powered by Deka”.

Five assets, the fee, and the rollout

At the start, the DSGV names Bitcoin, Ethereum, Ripple, Solana, and Polygon. Deka’s product page lists the same five. The tickers there are BTC, ETH, XRP, SOL, and POL.

Deka’s price sheet, version September 2026, sets the fee at €0.99 per buy or sell. Deka gave dpa the same figure. On 19 October, Bloomberg also reported €0.99 per order, citing a Deka statement.

A securities account is not required, according to dpa and Bloomberg. The price sheet sets no minimum order. The cap is €250,000 per transaction.

Deka describes the trading method as request-for-quote. On request, the bank posts a binding price for a short time. That price is a market reference plus a spread set by Deka.

There is no single start date for every Sparkasse, the DSGV says. Each institution decides for itself. Another 30 to 40 institutions are due to join each month.

Joachim Schmalzl, an executive board member of the DSGV, told dpa that the group wants a large share of interested Sparkassen connected in the first half of 2027. That is the association’s plan.

Custody and risk

Custody sits with DekaBank, the product page says. According to dpa, DekaBank holds the crypto in cooperation with Börse Stuttgart. The page’s glossary says private keys are held in trust in a jointly managed omnibus wallet.

Delivery goes only to wallet addresses of certain crypto-asset service providers. Deka does not deliver to other addresses. An October 2026 delivery sheet names four approved firms: Crypto Finance (Deutschland), Tangany, Börse Stuttgart Digital Custody, and Bullish Europe.

Delivery to such an address is free on the price sheet. Custody in the app is free on that sheet as well.

The product page limits the offer to customers who decide for themselves. The Sparkasse does not advise them. Bloomberg, citing Deka, says trading is limited to adult customers.

The DSGV calls crypto highly speculative. It says customers are warned about sharp price swings and the risk of a total loss. Unlike bank deposits, the holdings are not covered by statutory deposit insurance, according to Deka.

Two dates for the license

The product page gives no year. It calls DekaBank a notified crypto-asset service provider.

In its 19 October 2026 version, Das Investment writes that DekaBank received the custody license from BaFin in 2024. A report by the same newsroom, updated on 17 December 2024, says the ECB and BaFin granted a crypto-custody license that day. According to that report, the license still applies after MiCAR enters fully into force on 30 December 2024.

Bloomberg wrote on 19 October 2026 that DekaBank received the license for crypto trading from BaFin in 2025.

What to watch

  • Which Sparkassen have already switched the offer on
  • Which year appears in the BaFin or ESMA register
  • How wide Deka’s spread is in actual trades
