Marinade Brings the Solana Staking Index to Pyth — an Open Benchmark for Staking Yield
The Solana Staking Index (SSI) measures network yield from issuance and block rewards, excluding MEV, and is recalculated every epoch. Published via Pyth, it is readable on-chain — a reference point for providers and wallets.
What happened
Marinade has published the Solana Staking Index (SSI) on Pyth mainnet — an open reference value for staking yield on Solana. The index is open source, recalculated every epoch, and readable on-chain via Pyth under the identifier Crypto.Index.SSI.
What the index measures
What matters is what is in it and what is not:
- Included: yield from network issuance and block rewards — what the network can fundamentally pay out at the validator level, before validator commission and protocol fees.
- Excluded: MEV earnings. That is a deliberate boundary, since MEV fluctuates heavily and accrues very differently depending on the validator. What MEV is, is covered in MEV on Solana.
At publication, Marinade cited an index level of roughly 5.8 percent annualized (a snapshot — the value changes each epoch).
Why it is useful
Staking yields are reported very differently across providers — sometimes before fees, sometimes after, sometimes with MEV, sometimes without. A shared reference value makes offers comparable: if you want to know whether a provider is anywhere near what the network actually pays, you now have a neutral yardstick. Per Marinade, any address can also be checked against the index — read-only, without connecting.
For wallets, dashboards, and analyses, the on-chain availability via Pyth is the real lever: the value is machine-readable instead of sitting in a marketing table.
Context
Per Marinade, the index is open source and its methodology disclosed. How liquid staking and the various yield sources relate is in Liquid staking on Solana; the basics are in the Solana staking guide.
Note: This is reporting, not investment advice. Past index levels are not a commitment to future yield.
What to watch
- Whether wallets, LST providers, and dashboards adopt the index as a reference
- How far provider-reported yields diverge from the index level
- Whether the methodology gets independently recalculated
