Seed Phrase (Recovery Phrase)

A sequence of usually 12 or 24 words from which all of a wallet's private keys are derived. The ultimate backup — never share it or store it online.

Seed Phrase

The seed phrase (also recovery phrase) is a sequence of usually 12 or 24 words from which all of your wallet’s private keys are mathematically derived. With it, a wallet can be fully restored on any compatible device.

Why it is the most important thing

The seed phrase is the ultimate backup. Whoever has it has full control of the wallet — regardless of the device.

Storing it safely

  • Write it down offline: on paper or metal, not digitally.
  • Never enter it except when genuinely restoring a wallet. Phishing sites specifically ask for it.
  • Back it up redundantly: losing it without a backup means irrecoverable loss of the assets.

Some modern smart wallets deliberately avoid a classic seed phrase and use multi-factor methods instead.
