Airdrop
An airdrop is the distribution of tokens to many wallets, often as a reward for early usage of a protocol or to spread a new token. Notable Solana airdrops have retroactively rewarded active users in the past.
Two sides
- Real airdrops: protocols distribute tokens to qualifying wallets, often after a snapshot of past activity.
- Fake airdrops: scammers send worthless or malicious tokens into wallets. Interacting with them can lead to phishing sites that ask for your seed phrase.
Security note
Never blindly click or “claim” tokens received unsolicited. No legitimate party requires your seed phrase for that.
Projects defend against Sybil attacks, where single actors create many wallets to farm airdrops multiple times.
