Ledger introduces the Atom signer at Op3n
Pascal Gauthier introduced Atom at Op3n on 15 October. He puts the Founders Edition at $849. The Seeker app comes preinstalled.
Pascal Gauthier, Ledger’s chairman and CEO, introduced Atom at Op3n in Paris on 15 October. In his post he calls Atom a signer that runs everyday apps. The final approval of a sensitive action stays with the user, he writes.
The reservation notice says the device is not a smartphone. It uses 4G and 5G for data only. It cannot place calls over the mobile network.
Mobile OS and Secure Element
The whitepaper published the same day puts a mobile OS based on the Android Open Source Project beside Ledger OS. The two sides run on separate chips. An FPGA cuts the display and the touch path off from the mobile OS when a sensitive action starts.
The Secure Element that runs Ledger OS is an ST54M. It is Common Criteria EAL6+ certified, and the whitepaper calls it ready for post-quantum cryptography. The recovery phrase stays in that chip.
The product page lists 78 by 164 by 9 millimetres and a weight of 250 grams. The same page gives the display as 6.8 inches in one place and 6.77 inches in another. Gauthier describes a switch that cuts the camera and the microphone in hardware.
Seeker app
Solana Mobile calls Ledger its first hardware partner outside Solana Mobile’s own devices. The release places the announcement on the Op3n stage. The program lists Emmet Hollyer, general manager of Solana Mobile, among the keynotes.
Gauthier writes that the Seeker app will be preinstalled on every Atom. Solana Mobile says it combines the wallet and the dApp Store. Signing runs in Secure Mode.
Gauthier refers to more than 1,500 apps on the Solana dApp Store. Solana Mobile says those apps are coming to Atom. Solana Mobile says nothing changes for an existing Seeker.
Atom is sold only on Ledger’s own site. Reservations are open. Gauthier says further partners will be announced from Solana Breakpoint.
His post places that next month. The conference dates are in the Breakpoint report.
Opening the device
The whitepaper places the Secure Element, the microcontroller, and the FPGA in an area with tamper detection. Opening the device trips a second perimeter. Resetting that state takes a process Ledger supervises.
The whitepaper says this is meant to make unnoticed physical implants harder. A Ledger spokesperson told The Block that “Core Protection” will block the implants that read the screen in this case. The CryptoBilis case is in the 13 October report.
Price and delivery window
Gauthier puts the Founders Edition reserve price at $849. The deposit is $100, and he calls it fully refundable. Where the price is converted from euros, the reservation notice says the local-currency amount can move before the balance is paid.
The Block, citing Ledger, puts the regular price after launch at $899. The product page lists a $50 BTC voucher and gives summer 2027 as the shipping window. Gauthier’s footnote says the second quarter of 2027.
Both dates are estimates, not a commitment. The reservation notice ties delivery to approvals, FCC rules in the United States and the Radio Equipment Directive in the EU. The footnote says Atom is still in development, and the price can change before launch.
Ledger describes two cellular versions, one for North America and one for the rest of the world. The notice does not guarantee service on any given network. The bands can change before launch.
What to watch
- Whether $899 appears on a Ledger page
- Whether delivery stays at summer 2027 or the second quarter of 2027
- Which apps are cleared by the time of shipment
- Whether the bands outside North America match German networks
