Helius Presents Rings: Privacy Tiers Directly on Solana

Helius unveils Rings, a privacy system on Solana: the default ring encrypts asset and amount while sender and recipient stay visible. Institutions can configure their own rings with full anonymity and compliance rules.

What Happened

Helius — the infrastructure provider that acquired the privacy project Light Protocol in 2026 — has presented Rings, a privacy system for Solana. The official Solana account shared the introduction by Helius CEO Mert Mumtaz. The core: privacy in tiers, settled directly on Solana — per Helius without L2s, new trust assumptions, or extra infrastructure, built on zero-knowledge proofs.

The Two Ring Types

Default (Confidential Ring): Transfers encrypt asset and amountsender and recipient stay public. You can still see who interacts with whom, but no longer what and how much moves.

Configurable anonymous rings: Organizations can set up their own rings that additionally hide sender and recipient — with rules attached:

  • Restriction to specific assets (say, only one stablecoin)
  • Transfer limits requiring approval above thresholds
  • Allowlists and blocklists for destination addresses
  • Auditor visibility plus freeze/thaw capabilities for investigations
  • Compliance either brought along or as managed KYC and sanction screening from Helius

Status and Context

Per the product page, the system is in private beta; audit and formal verification precede the mainnet launch. Mumtaz names a mainnet launch next month as the target.

The approach differs from existing building blocks like confidential transfers in the Token-2022 standard by combining tiered anonymity and institutional rules in one system.
