What Backpack Announced
Backpack has unveiled Backpack Securities — a platform that combines regulated US stock brokerage with on-chain tokenization. According to the announcement, users can buy, hold, and sell real stocks through established US securities infrastructure and then tokenize them.
How It Works
- Regulated brokerage: investors receive real ownership rights comparable to traditional broker-dealers, including eligibility for cash dividends and corporate actions. The platform uses established rails such as ACATS and DTCC.
- Tokenization via Sunrise: the partner Sunrise creates blockchain representations of the securities; each tokenized security corresponds 1:1 to a real share held in custody.
- Two-way bridge: investors can convert traditional security entitlements into tokenized securities and back again.
Solana Connection
The first tokenized securities launch, per the announcement, on Solana, bringing native liquidity to the Solana ecosystem. For how tokenized stocks on Solana work in general, see: Tokenized stocks (xStocks) on Solana.
Context
- The brokerage rollout begins, per the announcement, in June 2026, focusing initially on the United States.
- Backpack is a crypto exchange founded by former FTX employees.
- Brokerage is subject to regulatory oversight; tokenized versions carry additional transfer and DeFi risks. This is reporting, not investment advice.
