Token-2022
Token-2022, officially the Token Extensions Program, is Solana’s second token standard. It runs under program ID TokenzQdBNbLqP5VEhdkAS6EPFLC1PHnBqCXEpPxuEb and has been live on mainnet since January 2024. Unlike the classic SPL Token program, Token-2022 offers more than twenty optional extensions that token issuers can enable at mint creation.
What is new
Token-2022 extends token functionality in three areas: compliance (Permanent Delegate, Pausable, Confidential Transfers), user experience (Memo Transfer, Token Metadata, Scaled UI Amount), and new business models (Transfer Fees, Transfer Hooks, Interest-Bearing).
Who uses it
PayPal’s PYUSD, Paxos’s USDG, and Circle’s EURC all run on Token-2022. Existing tokens like USDC, USDT, or BONK stay on the classic standard — Token-2022 is opt-in for new mints.
